On Friday (19 Nov), Austria became the first country in the region to make COVID jabs mandatory by 1 February, while several other countries announced barred unvaccinated individuals from entering a list of non-essential facilities. The new regulations triggered widespread protests across Europe, as tens of thousands of people gathered in Rotterdam and Vienna’s Heroes’ Square, with days’ rioting leading to hundreds of arrests and extensive property damage.
