Six students were denied entry with Hijab at the Women’s Government PU College in Udupi

The deadlock on the hijab issue continues in the Women’s Government PU College in Udupi even after three weeks. Six students were denied entry with Hijab at the Women’s Government PU College in Udupi. However, the students continue to come to the college regularly but find that they are denied entry.

The issue remains the same as it was three weeks ago.

“The students are not allowed to attend the class for the reason that they are wearing Hijab. Even after our repeated request to the Principal, Deputy Director of Pre-Universities (DDPU), and the district administrations, these girls are not allowed to enter the college with Hijab,” CFI state committee member Masood Manna stated to a new publication.

“When there are no such rules in other colleges, how is it being followed here,” he questioned.

However, the college development committee has a different version.

“The students of the college should wear uniform as per the rules. We have now written to the government asking if the uniform is needed or not. We are awaiting the government’s reply.
These girls used to come to college without wearing Hijab for some months. Until the government gives its decision let them come to the class without wearing Hijab and if the government decides to do away with uniform, then there will be no dress code for anybody,” Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat, who also heads the College development committee said.

Meanwhile, saffron outfits have strongly opposed hijab inside the college premises.

“In future skull cap and burqa too may be demanded,” Hindu Jagarana Vedike leader Prakash Kukkehalli said. He also added that if hijab is allowed then Hindu boys would wear saffron shawls and attend class.
