California, USA (CU)_ Twist Bioscience Corporation, a firm that enables customers to succeed by providing high-quality synthetic DNA through its silicon platform, revealed that it has joined the Digital Preservation Coalition’s (DPC) Supporter Program, which brings together members and solution providers.

The Digital Preservation Coalition is a membership-based organization that was founded in 2002 as a partnership between several agencies headquartered in the United Kingdom and Ireland and has now expanded to include global membership. The DPC aims to assist its members to provide robust long-term access to digital information and services in order to gain long-term value from digital assets, as well as to promote understanding of the strategic, cultural, and technological problems encountered by its members.

William Kilbride, executive director of the DPC, expressed hopes over the technology. He said, “Our members store immensely rich and valuable cultural and organizational data, with much of that data archived for a long period of time”. He added, “With DNA storage moving from the trial stage to practical implementation, we believe that it will be valuable for our members to evaluate this new differentiated storage medium, particularly with the opportunity to provide input on the initial offering.”

Emily M. Leproust, Ph.D., CEO and co-founder of Twist, expressed delight over the new venture. She said, “We are pleased to join the Digital Preservation Coalition and are eager to be an active member of the group. We look forward to engaging with members to understand their needs for very long-term storage as we refine our Century Archive DNA data storage solution.”
