Angola forges ahead with 1-billion-euro solar power project

ANGOLA – The entire world is now starting to look at renewable energy in a new light. There is a new wave of people trying to be more earth minded and to try and use the natural resources to their best advantage.

Angola is an African Nation that is now looking towards getting solar energy for the country so that electricity will be more affordable for the people. Work will be carried out by German-Angolan consortium aiming to use clean energy to ‘reduce poverty by increasing basic social services’ in 60 communities.

Angola is launching a project for the supply, construction and testing of hybrid photovoltaic generation systems and the expansion of the electricity grid for 60 communities in the provinces of Malanje, Bié, Moxico, Lunda Norte and Lunda Sul.

The 1-billion-euro contract will be carried out by a consortium made up of MCA Deutschland GMBH and M. Couto Alves Vias from Angola.

According to Portuguese news agency Lusa, the project, which is part of the Angolan Power Sector Development Programme, aims to “reduce poverty by increasing basic social services, including access to electricity”.
