Islamabad, Pakistan (CU)_ Following the technical failure of the 969MW Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered the concerned ministries to restore the power supply immediately. The prime minister, who presided over a high-level discussion on the subject, voiced his dissatisfaction at the technical failure of the project, which halted the flow of environmentally friendly power to the national grid during the peak of summer. It was reported that the power plant’s output was impacted by the shutdown of the three-kilometer-long Tailrace Water Tunnel.
In addition to ensuring the reopening of the power plant, the prime minister instructed the relevant authorities to investigate the incident through a renowned international agency. He also stated that all resources should be deployed immediately to offer assistance to the people. The prime minister informed the gathering that the government was trying to launch an efficient process for pre-qualification, third-party monitoring, and assessment of enterprises in order to assure the transparency and quality of development initiatives.
The meeting was attended by Khurram Dastgir, Minister for Energy; Ahad Cheema, Advisor to the Prime Minister; Shahid Khatan Abbasi, Member of National Assembly; and other prominent senior officers. PM Shehbaz Sharif was pleased with the plans made for trash management and law and order in Lahore during the Eid holidays and praised the team of officials and employees for their efforts.
Khwaja Ahmed Hassan, Chairman of Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC); Kamran Ali Afzal, Chief Secretary of Punjab; Usman, Commissioner of Lahore Captain; Umer Sher Chatta, Deputy Commissioner of Lahore; Rafia Haider, Managing Director of LWMC; and Ghufran Ahmed, Managing Director of Water and Sanitation Authority were praised by the PM for their professionalism. The prime minister expressed his appreciation by honoring the officials with garlands.
