Teachers’ Day 2022: Here are some facts about Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan

INDIA – Teacher’s day in India is celebrated on the 5th of September. This is because it’s the birth date of Bharat Ratna Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a teacher, who was the first vice president and second president of India. Obviously, these are big shoes to fill and no one is sure if anyone can live up to the name and legacy this man has left behind.

In India it is believed that the biggest blessing you can do is to become a teacher. To impart all your knowledge to the next generation so that they can have more to impart to the generation after them. That is exactly what Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan did.

He was born on the 5th of September 1988 in Tiruttani Tamil Nadu. He was always very interested in education and always dreamed of becoming a teacher. What he never though was that he would not only be one of the greatest teachers, but that he would also be the president of his motherland.

When he became the president all his friends and students from the past wanted to celebrate to which he stated that he would be very much grateful if Teachers Day was to be held on his birthday. His wishes were honoured and since that day teachers day in India has been celebrated on his birthday.

Whilst he was a student Dr. Radhakrishnan was given and awarded many scholarships and opportunities to further his studies. It is seen that he took every opportunity to better his knowledge. After all education it is seen that he still pursued anther course which was philosophy at the Christian Collage in Madras.

The educationist was loved by all his students. He served as a professor of philosophy at Mysore and Calcutta Universitas. His classes were always full of young mind wanting to learn from him. The doctor also served as the vice chancellor of Andhra University, the former president was also the also vice chancellor of Benares Hindu University (BHU) from 1939–48 and chancellor of the University of Delhi (DU) from 1953 to 1962. He has also taken teaching jobs out of the country, he as a professor, he taught about eastern religions and ethics at the University of Oxford, England from 1936–52.
