South Geelong, Australia (Commonwealth Union)_Just about a year ago, Sri Lanka bowled Namibia out for 96 and won the match. However, as we kick start the T20 World Cup this year, Namibia beat Sri Lanka by 55 runs!

Stakes were high and a lot of expectations were placed on Sri Lanka after their Asia Cup victory, which could be the reason behind their unsteady performance display against Namibia. Although 12 months passed since last year’s game, Namibian captain Gerhard Erasmus stated that the defeat last year gave them the opportunity to gauge the skill required to beat the team. As such, they put in the effort and got the win in their bag.

After the heavy defeat last year, Namibia managed to scrape through the super 12s. However, they were blown away by bigger teams like India and Pakistan by large margins as they were constantly defeated on the field.

Erasmus stated that before they were due to take on Sri Lanka on the field, a lot of tabloids speculated their victory at a mere 11%. He said that this gave them the underdog feeling which compelled them to get onto the grounds with an equal footing and do their best. This did work out in their favour as they sailed towards victory. “Everyone is very glad at beating a Test nation for the first time ever, and on a world stage, in the opening game,” the Namibian skipper said. “It’s a massive event in our lives and it should be celebrated.” He concluded.

With Namibia beating Sri Lanka, the World Cup is already starting off with plot twists! There is a lot more to unfold and a lot more excitement to follow. Stay tuned on this segment for daily updates and commentary on the games and join us enjoy and explore the World Cup together!
