India (Commonwealth Union)_ Mukesh Ambani, the second richest person in India behind Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani and the tenth richest person in the world, is famous for his commercial acumen. Ambani was the richest man in the country as the chairman of Reliance Industries until Adani surpassed him early this year. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Ambani’s current wealth is $81.4 billion. Even though he is super rich, he once had to borrow some money from a fellow traveler.
The incident occurred when the 65-year-old business tycoon was traveling from Mumbai to Delhi in the early 1980s. According to the incident, the flight was rerouted to Ahmedabad due to Delhi’s fog, leaving the then-young Ambani stranded. Hence, he was forced to borrow money from a fellow traveler since he had neither cash nor a credit card. Even though over 40 years have elapsed since this event, Ambani still continues to avoid carrying money or credit cards with him.
According to him, “If the purpose of business is only to make money, then it is a poor business model. If you can’t impact millions of lives then it is a pointless exercise”. Ambani, a rich gentleman driving the expansion of RIL, appears to be a commoner in his personal life and is the happiest while consuming black gram from Mahabaleshwar with coworkers during late-night meetings at Maker IV. The businessman also loves eating dosa at the Madras Cafe in Matunga and Gujarati farsan from the stores in Dadar Kabutarkhana.
Even if he has accomplished the great achievement of making it to the world’s richest list, the billionaire dislikes being referred to as the richest man in the world. The billionaire enjoys bajra roti and curd for supper at home, along with movies in his home theater. Instead of a suit, he normally wears a casual white shirt and black pants to the office. He does not give importance to the brand of his watch or pen. According to Ambani, all that is necessary is the ability to buy the essential things needed for life.
