Singapore (Commonwealth Union)_ KEPPEL Infrastructure, based in Singapore, will collaborate with renewable energy firm GreenKo, headquartered in Hyderabad, India, to investigate opportunities for green ammonia and renewable energy. The former revealed in a bourse filing that it will collaborate with the latter to determine if it is possible to jointly establish a manufacturing plant capable of producing at least 250,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually.

In addition, the two firms will find and analyze a portfolio of solar and wind energy projects with an installed capacity of up to around 1.3 gigawatt that can power the production plant. Further, there will also be pumped hydro-storage. Green ammonia is produced using green hydrogen derived from water electrolysis using renewable energy. A memorandum of understanding was signed between these corporations through their respective subsidiaries in order to address the rising need for low-carbon energy in India, Singapore and worldwide.

According to Keppel Infrastructure, “As more countries journey towards net zero emissions to combat climate change, there is a growing interest globally to use green ammonia as a direct feedstock for carbon-free energy generation, because when it is used as a fuel, green ammonia does not generate any carbon dioxide”. Additionally, green ammonia may be employed as a hydrogen carrier to give green hydrogen solutions for challenging industries, such as the chemical and heavy industries. Further, green ammonia might be substituted for bunker fuels in order to decarbonize the worldwide marine sector.

The partnership between Keppel Infrastructure and Greenko will help India achieve its mission of producing five million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030 and emerge as an export center for the fuel.According to Keppel Corporation, the parent company of Keppel Infrastructure, it does not expect the partnership to have any major impact on their profits per share as well as net tangible assets per share for the ongoing fiscal year.
