Australia vs Ireland

(Commonwealth Union)_Isn’t it a treat to watch Australia take over the field. I must say, they always put up an exciting game of cricket, and with Ireland’s recent records, there was much anticipation for this game. Despite having a slow start, Australia sealed victory at The Gabba, defeating Ireland by 42 runs.

Ireland went into their bowling attack with expertise; Barry McCarthy dismissed David Warner in the third innings before Australia got into form, ensuring a rocky start. The score was 38/1 at the end of powerplay with Finch and Mitchell doing their best to cover up the breakthrough wicket. It was Finch who carried the match, securing two crucial partnerships of 52 and 70 with Mitchell and Marcus Stoinis respectively, until his knock was ended once again by McCarthy.

Australia was able to secure a competitive total by the end of the first innings, however the game turned for them entirely when they made a quick recovery early on in the second innings after the Irish opening batsmen Balbirnie and Stirling played some devastating shots. Soon after a good start to the second innings for Ireland, Australia got into form rapidly, taking down Ireland’s top and middle order completely.

At this point, there was little to no hope for Ireland until Lorcan Tucker entered and fought until the very end. He showcased a brilliant knock and remained unbeaten on 71 from 48 deliveries until Ireland was bowled out for 137.

Australian bowlers Adam Zampa, Glenn Maxwell, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc all claimed a couple of wickets under their name leading their team towards victory.

From Lorcan Tucker’s brilliance to the swift bowling, the entire match was a treat to watch. There is more anticipation now as Australia struggles to level with New Zealand in terms of their NRR, the world cup intensifies as days go by.
