India (Commonwealth Union)_ In order to provide complete treatment for patients and families with genetic abnormalities, Apollo Hospitals has established the Apollo Genomics Institutes in its Navi Mumbai hospital, a hospital with advanced quaternary care. Genomic medicine is a new medical field that focuses on genetic problems and aids in the detection and treatment of uncommon and hereditary diseases. It also gives information on an individual’s likelihood of acquiring a genetic disease and their response to a certain therapy, enabling precision and individualized medicine.

In addition to diagnosing uncommon disorders, genomic medicine is also employed in cancer pharmacogenomics and the monitoring of infectious disease outbreaks. Individuals, couples, and families will be assisted by the Apollo Genomics Institutes in comprehending the medical, psychological, family, and reproductive consequences of genetic abnormalities. The Apollo Genomics Institutes will greatly help large populations with genetic illnesses, aberrant genetic testing, kids with developmental delays, congenital defects, and family members with genetic indispositions.

The Genomic Center will make the early examination and detection of genetic diseases, as well as their related treatment and long-term care. Dr. Snehal Malalkmir, Consultant Clinical Genetics and Pediatrician at Apollo Hospitals, in an effort to calm any concerns over the expenses of genetic testing, stated that not all genetic tests are extremely expensive. Additionally, in order to aid needy patients, the hospital is also researching ways to decrease the load on common people by partnering with charity groups and exploring crowd-funding opportunities.

According to Prof. Dr Anupam Sibal, Group Medical Director at Apollo Hospitals, “The sequencing and analysis of the human genome has revolutionized medicine, enabling the era of personalized care. Genomic medicine focuses on treating and preventing disease through an assessment of an individual’s genetic structure. The Apollo Genomics Institutes will translate advancements in genetic medicine into real benefits for patients with dedicated and experienced genetic consultants and certified genetic counselors.”

Sangita Reddy, Joint Managing Director of Apollo Hospitals Group, expressed pride over the initiative. She said, “Research shows that many diseases may have a direct or indirect hereditary origin. Apollo Hospitals is proud to be among the first to establish a specialized multidisciplinary Apollo Genomics Institutes that will bring genomic medicine into regular clinical care and support patients and families with genetic indispositions.
