Pandya has described in detail how he has adapted his style to meet the needs of the team. He said, “I have always enjoyed hitting sixes. But that’s life, I have to evolve. I have believed in partnerships, and I want to give my batting partner and my team some assurance and calmness that I’m there. I have played more games than any of these guys. I have learned how to accept and swallow pressure and make sure everything is calm. Maybe I need to get my strike rate down for that”. He added, “Taking on new responsibilities is something that I always look forward to. I want to take the new ball role too, because I do not want anyone to come and take that challenging role. If they are under pressure, then we are chasing the game. I want to lead the front. I have been working on my new ball skills”.

Pandya also said that his position is comparable to that of former India skipper MS Dhoni in the latter stages of his international career. He said, “I don’t mind playing the role that somewhere down the line Mahi used to play. I was young at that time and hitting all over the park. But since he’s gone, all of a sudden, that responsibility is on me. I don’t mind. We are getting results. It’s okay for me to play a little slowly.”
