Government launches initiative to train 25,000 smart women entrepreneurs: Speaker

Pakistan (Commonwealth Union)_ Smart women entrepreneurs are a driving force behind today’s global economy, shaping the business landscape and challenging traditional gender roles in the workplace. In commemoration of this year’s International Women’s Day, Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, the Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, announced that the government is launching a project worth Taka 250 crore to create 25,000 smart women entrepreneurs in the nation.

During the discussion at the city hotel, the Speaker said, “Initiatives have been taken to implement a project styled ‘Her Power’ at a cost of Taka 250 crore in line with the instructions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and also planned by PM’s ICT Affairs Advisor Sajib Wazed Joy”. The Speaker explained that the project will provide necessary training and a capital investment of Taka 20,000 to each woman entrepreneur. According to her, these smart women entrepreneurs will play a supportive role in establishing a smart Bangladesh.

While addressing an event organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham), the Speaker encouraged the women to become entrepreneurs. Dr Shirin lauded the contribution made by the women and highlighted their importance in the society. She said, “There is no scope to count the contribution of the women as the women accounts half of the country’s total population. So, we have to ensure gender equality in all spheres of the society.”

Dr. Shirin Sharmin also stated that the government is tirelessly working towards building a smart Bangladesh by 2041, including smart citizens, a smart economy, a smart government, and a smart society. Additionally, the Speaker emphasized the importance of including women in the blue economy. The event was presided over by AmCham President Syed Ershad Ahmed and featured speeches by the Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Dhaka, Helen LaFave, and SEMS Global President and Group Managing Director, Meherun N Islam.

Some of the unique qualities of smart women entrepreneurs are strategic thinking, effective communication, and the ability to adapt to changing market trends that enable them to launch and grow successful businesses. Despite facing obstacles such as gender bias and limited access to funding, smart women entrepreneurs continue to excel, proving that gender should not be a barrier to success in business. Through their leadership, innovation, and determination, smart women entrepreneurs are changing the face of entrepreneurship and inspiring future generations of women to follow in their footsteps.
