Hydrogen storage in salt may resolve issues

Science & Technology, Canada (Commonwealth Union) – Hydrogen can be used as a fuel source in a variety of ways, including combustion, fuel cells, and as a raw material for the production of other chemicals. When hydrogen is burned, it produces heat and water as byproducts, making it a clean source of energy. Hydrogen fuel cells use a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity, and the only byproducts are heat and water.

One advantage of hydrogen as a fuel source is that it is abundant and can be produced using a variety of methods, including electrolysis of water, reforming of natural gas or other hydrocarbons, and biomass gasification. However, the production of hydrogen can be energy-intensive, and most of the hydrogen produced today comes from natural gas, which is not a renewable resource.

Increasing hydrogen production is a major goal for the Canadian province of Alberta for its Hydrogen Road Map, that will require a place for the storage of large fuel quantities.
