Staff of the NHS (National Health Service) are set to receive a pay rise. These will consist of nurses, paramedics and 999 call handlers.
Over 1 million NHS staff in England, are set to get a pay increase, backdated to April. A just qualified nurse will have their salary rise by over £2,750 over a 2-year period. Staff will be further entitled to a one-off ‘NHS backlog bonus’ valued at least £1,250. From the 1st of June, over 1 million NHS workers will begin to get a pay increase after an agreement between the government and unions.
Additionally, staff will get a one-off ‘NHS backlog bonus’ that recognizes the sustained pressure that the NHS is faced with after the pandemic as well as the astounding work staff have been making to fulfil the promise of the PM to lower waiting lists.
The backlog bonus is to be valued for at least £1,250 per person, however the determinations will be made according to the level of experience staff have and according to an individual’s pay band.
Health and Social Care Secretary Steve Barclay says “We’re giving nurses, paramedics, physiotherapists and other eligible staff a fair pay rise, which will see for example, band six staff getting an extra £5,000 over two years.”
The nurse’s strike has been an issue that drew much attention in recent month with high inflation following pandemic lockdowns.
