UK and India to tech ties further

Europe UK (Commonwealth Union) – Lord Tariq Ahmad, Minister of State for South Asia, arrived in India on Saturday and will remain there till the end of the month, with the aim of reinforcing science, research together with innovation links.

He is set to tour historic cultural sites together with high-tech research facilities in Jodhpur, New Delhi, and Hyderabad and will also meet senior government officials from the country.

The minister will also make public the UK-India Health-Tech Bootcamp winners, welcoming partnerships in the health and start-up communities of both the UK and India.

Since Brexit the UK has been seeking to enhance new ties across the world. Stronger ties between the UK and Commonwealth nations are expected to be enhanced taking into account the UK’s historic ties with these nations.

Lord Ahmads’ trip to India is set to further the UK-India partnership in science, technology, and health, following a landmark agreement on science, research, and innovation inked by the two nations in April.

Taking further the UK-India links that are set out in the 2030 Roadmap. The UK minister will meet senior Ministers and officials from India, that will consist of Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra, and Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, among others.

The minister’s visit will draw its attention to science, technology, and innovation which emphasizes the commitment of the UK to further enhance collaborations in these areas all over the world.

The trade deal with India gives backing to the UK’s growth strategy to enhance the status of the UK as an independent trading nation away from the EU, forming new trade and investment deals.

Christina Scott, the Acting British High Commissioner to India, says “The UK and India enjoy an invaluable partnership. As we deliver the UK-India Roadmap 2030, we are deepening and accelerating our collaboration on health, climate, trade, education, science and technology, and defense.”
