It’s not an easy task to develop healthy study habits, with children. Often children avoid studying since they find it boring. When studying is tedious, children frequently forget what they’re attempting to memorize.
While studying children get distracted, tired, board and loose interest. So, it’s always better to find ways to make learning fun and enjoyable.
Dr. Anjana Nandy, development psychologist and founder of Hopscotch child therapy said that kids can be a handful when it comes to study. Children struggle when they have to learn how to study. Some of them cannot focus for a long time and some are not motivated to do it. Parents should use effective strategies and activities to make studying fun for their children.
At home the best way to make studying fun for children is to create an environment that encourages learning. This includes having the right resources, such as books and having a peaceful place away from distractions such as Tv or video games.
One of the most important things is your child should know what they are going to study. This way they will feel more curious about learning new things. In advance, plan out fun activities, so that when your child gets home from school, all he needs to do is get started with his homework.
Before starting the activity, make sure you have plenty of time for this, so that your child does not feel rushed or pressured into getting started right away.
Try making flashcards or taking notes by hand, this will help the child to remember what they learnt. When teaching them new words speak them out in a funny way. Some children learn best from doing things step-by-step, while others need more open-ended activities that allow them to explore on their own terms.
A great way to build up existing, expressive and receptive language skills, are when you makeup stories about what they are learning.
When a child does something good, parents should reward them. When they complete their work on time, praise them. This will encourage good behavior in children.
Make studying fun for your children and for you. By getting overly stressed with your child’s schoolwork will not help to achieve the desired outcome. A stress – free environment is most conductive to learning.
