Sri Lanka appoints new High Commissioner to…?

Sri Lanka_ Mr. Rohitha Bogollagama, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka from the year 2007 to 2010 has been appointed as the High Commissioner of the United Kingdom.

His appointment will officially commence on the 1st of August.

In addition to his post as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Bogollagama has also chaired the COPE Committee (Committee On Public Enterprises) and has served as the Governor of the Eastern Province from July 2017 to December 2018.

Mr. Rohitha Bogollagama has a record of a successful diplomatic career during his tenure as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. His efforts in promoting investment, tourism, trade and strengthening diplomatic relations have been highlighted throughout his political career which began in the year 2000.

A lawyer with thirty years of experience, Bogollagama made his Parliamentary debut as a member of the United National Party, elected to parliament from the Kurunegala District.

Mr. Rohitha Bogollagama contributed his expertise to several Parliamentary Consultative Committees including Finance, Foreign Affairs, Defense, Industrial Development & Investment Promotion, and Power & Energy.

Switching his political allegiance on the 18th of November 2004, Rohitha Bogollagama joined the United People’s Freedom Alliance while he was also sworn as the Cabinet Minister of Advanced Technology and National Enterprise on the very same day.

Bogollagama has also been credited for representing the Sri Lankan Government at two decisive rounds of peace talks with the LTTE at the Geneva Human Rights Council session in 2006.

Assuming duties as the new High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the United Kingdom, Rohitha Bogollagama will play an active role in identifying the best interests of the country while enhancing British- Sri Lankan diplomacy in order to maintain the amicable relationship that has been steadily growing between the two countries.
