Happy 58th birthday…

In the lead-up to Singapore’s National Day celebrations, every year, from hotels and shopping malls to the heartland, are decked out in red and white to celebrate the nation’s birthday on August 9th.  The annual affair marks Singapore’s independence from Malaysia.   As the country turns 58 tomorrow, the city dresses up for the occasion with flags lining several buildings across the island.

Singapore National Day 2023 will be for people to get active rather than just soak in the festivities.  The spotlight was turned on sports by Organisers of 2023’s heartland celebrations so that locals are encouraged to have a go at different activities, a range of which have been lined up at 5 sites from old school games such as eraser battles and sport tryouts to bouncy castles to get Singaporeans in the National Day mood during the first weekend of August.

There were sports tryouts facilitated by qualified coaches At the GetActive! Singapore Heartland Festivals, for table tennis, athletics, football, floorball and basketball among others.

Singaporeans across the island came together and sweated it out at the GetActive! Singapore Heartland Festivals and had a go at sporting activities, among others, on Saturday ahead of Singapore’s 58th birthday.   About 28,000 people turned up at four locations for the ticketed events where the events kicked-off at 4pm, endong at 9pm.

The festivals, that had been organised by Sport Singapore and the National Day Parade 2023 Heartland Celebrations Committee continued Sunday at Toa Payoh, Bedok, Jurong West, and Woodlands stadiums, with the extension in Our Tampines Hub.   There was something for everyone with carnival games and a plethora of activities lined-up.

Most festivalgoers in Bedok donning red and white – tried out sports like basketball and athletics, or experiential activities such as zorbing, where a person climbs inside a large inflatable ball and rolls around, archery, roller skating and skateboarding were available for festivalgoers to try.  Attendees were also able to experience a blast from the past with kampong games such as face-offs – a giant eraser battle using a larger-than-life eraser to flip and pin down the eraser of an opponent or have to toss rings around pegs placed in front of pictures of Singapore attractions.

At the main atriums of Causeway Point and Tampines 1, those who include the malls in their celebration plans could receive an SG58 freebie from the Mama Shop when they dress up in the colours of the national flag!  Those who catch the characters of old Singapore in action over at Century Square and Changi City Point, receive an SG58 freebie too!

The Carnival happening and Tanjong Pagar-Tiong Bahru National Day Observance Ceremony at Tiong Bahru Plaza’s outdoor space will be starting at 8.30 am. showing the Singapore spirit and coming together to recite the National Pledge, sing the National Anthem, and take part in exciting carnival games! https://thenewageparents.com/singapore-birthday-national-day-parade/

On National Day itself, the five festival sites will be where Singaporeans are able to catch fireworks displays that will be set off at the same time as the fireworks at the Padang, where the parade will be held, and Marina Bay.  These sites where the fireworks displays are expected to take place from 8.15 pm to 8.25 pm. will be open to the public from 6pm, with Public viewing within these sites will be facilitated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Before the fireworks displays, heartland merrymakers will also get an aerial treat, with helicopters and fighter jets taking to the skies.  Activities available at each site are different. 

The state flag will be carried by Two CH-47 Chinook helicopters that will concurrently fly across the east and west of Singapore between 5.30 and 6.30 pm., each escorted by 2 AH-64D Apache helicopters making their way through the heartlands via two routes (Eastern & Western) from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.

RSAF55 Island Flypast

Commemorating RSAF55, an RSAF55 Island Flypast featuring the A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport with six F-16D+ & three F-15SG fighter aircraft will make their way through the heartlands from 5.40pm – 6.10pm.flying in the vicinity of 5 heartland areas – Tampines, Bedok, Jurong West, Toa Payoh and Woodlands.
