Europe UK (Commonwealth Union) – Today, Minister for the Economy, Vaughan Gething, introduced a groundbreaking initiative, marking a unique partnership between a devolved nation and Innovate UK. This initiative outlines Wales’ roadmap for fostering a more robust innovation-driven economy.

The announcement took place at the kickoff of Wales Tech Week at ICC Wales in Newport, where the Minister, in collaboration with Indro Mukerjee, CEO of Innovate UK, unveiled the Collaborative Innovation Plan, a joint effort aimed at tapping into the nation’s innovative potential. This plan is designed to facilitate the exchange of ideas and the adoption of cutting-edge technologies among businesses and organizations.

The Collaborative Innovation Plan is a culmination of commitments made over the past year, building upon the memorandum of understanding reached between the Welsh Government and Innovate UK in April. It signifies a significant stride forward in both parties’ common vision of enhancing investment in innovation and securing more competitive funding for research, development, and innovation endeavors in Wales. The plan provides a clear roadmap with specific actions and milestones to drive these objectives forward.

Minister for the Economy, Vaughan Gething, expressed his enthusiasm for launching the Collaborative Innovation Plan during Wales Tech Week, surrounded by some of the most creative and forward-thinking individuals and businesses in the tech industry. This initiative is set to play a pivotal role in advancing innovation and driving economic growth in Wales.

During Wales Tech Week, the event schedule will feature sessions covering various topics, such as cybersecurity and artificial intelligence (AI). As a key component of this program, the Welsh Government will convene a panel of international experts from regions of strategic significance to Wales. Their aim is to delve into the ways in which ethical, equitable, and secure AI solutions can have a positive impact on both our economy and society at large.
