Picturesque Scottish hotel destroyed by flood

Hotels (Commonwealth Union) _ Des and Sinead returned to their Osprey Hotel after a winter break to discover a devastating sight—complete destruction. A dislodged pipe in the loft had allowed water to flow through the hotel from top to bottom for several weeks. The damage was extensive, requiring the couple to rip out every wall, ceiling, and floor. Furnishings, electronics, kitchen equipment, and decor—all destroyed. The couple, heartbroken and shocked, learned that their insurance wouldn’t cover the damage as they were away longer than 21 days.

Des and Sinead purchased the Osprey hotel in 2019, diligently transforming it from disrepair to comfort by investing their life savings. Despite challenges from the Covid pandemic, the property faced flooding due to the previous owners’ poor workmanship. This compelled a comprehensive restoration, requiring the hotel to be stripped down to its joists. To fund the revitalization, every donation is converted into a refundable voucher, allowing supporters to contribute to the Osprey’s revival and experience its future offerings.

The rebuilding process is set to begin in January 2024, with the couple aiming to have the hotel up and running again by July 2024. The estimated cost for this extensive project is around £125,000. Des and Sinead initiated a fundraiser to garner support for the Osprey. Donations made will be transformed into refundable vouchers, granting supporters a chance to actively contribute to the hotel’s revival and enjoy a future stay. This innovative approach not only rallies community support but also creates a tangible connection between contributors and the hotel’s rejuvenation. The couple expressed their gratitude for any and all support, emphasizing that they don’t seek charity but rather assistance in getting the Osprey back on its feet.
