Under this initiative, the government has pledged to collaborate with local leaders and MPs to solicit their perspectives on funding utilization and to explore any alternative proposals aimed at enhancing connectivity.

Local leaders and MPs have voiced their endorsement for extending Northern Powerhouse Rail to include Warrington Bank Quay and Manchester Airport, while also favoring the previously proposed route alignment between Liverpool and Manchester.

Considering local perspectives, this will serve as the foremost choice for advancing the next phase of development along the route connecting Liverpool and Manchester.

The government has indicated that it remains committed to evaluating alternative options that align with the goals of Northern Powerhouse Rail, adhering to customary protocols for business case validations. Any proposed scheme must be financially viable, showcasing a clear value proposition for taxpayers, all the while addressing the rail capacity demands of central Manchester. Furthermore, it was pointed out that it should strive to enhance journey efficiency and foster improved connectivity throughout the Northern region.

Transport Secretary, Mark Harper, says “Today, we are setting out the next steps for how we can transform east-west rail links in the North, helping to boost economic growth between key Northern cities as part of our Network North plan.”

Infrastructure that has connivant transportation that can get passengers promptly to their destination have always played a crucial role in a nation’s development.
