The 3+3 ministerial dialogue, known formally as the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR), is slated to take place around August 25th. This meeting represents the second edition of high-level discussions involving foreign, finance, and trade ministers from both nations. The inaugural session was held in Delhi in September 2022, marking a significant step in deepening the bilateral partnership. The upcoming roundtable will further explore opportunities for collaboration across various sectors, including food safety, digitalization, and semiconductor technology.

The ISMR was established to enhance cooperation and identify new areas for collaboration. Focus areas include digital connectivity, fintech, the green economy, green hydrogen, skill development and food productivity. These sectors are pivotal as both countries seek to address emerging global challenges and capitalise on mutual strengths. Furthermore, the city-state is India’s largest trade partner within ASEAN and a leading source of foreign direct investment (FDI). Additionally, the ethnic Indian community in Singapore constitutes approximately 9.1% of the resident population, underscoring the deep cultural and economic connections between the two nations.

PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Singapore marks a return since his last trip in 2018. During that visit, he engaged in significant diplomatic activities, including addressing the Shangri-La Dialogue, making him the first Indian Prime Minister to do so, and participating in the 13th East Asia Summit. The bilateral relationship has been further strengthened by the recent congratulatory message from Singapore’s Prime Minister, Lawrence Wong, who extended his best wishes to Modi upon his reappointment for a third term. Wong’s letter highlighted Modi’s role in shepherding India’s transformation and improving the lives of millions. Wong expressed his eagerness to continue working with Modi to advance the strategic ties between their nations.

As PM Modi embarks on this important visit, the focus will be on solidifying existing partnerships and exploring new avenues for collaboration. The outcome of these engagements, particularly the 3+3 dialogue, is expected to play a significant role in shaping the future of India-Singapore relations. Both leaders aim to leverage their countries’ strengths to address global challenges and foster sustainable growth. Furthermore, the upcoming interactions between India and Singapore signify a pivotal moment in their bilateral relations. With the 3+3 dialogue set to address critical issues and PM Modi’s visit poised to further enhance cooperation, both nations are on track to achieve greater collaboration and mutual benefit in the years ahead.
