one of the highlights of the celebrations will not take place during the June weekend of Platinum Jubilee celebrations, but a few weeks before that. In honour of Her Majesty’s record-breaking reign, an equestrian display will be held at Windsor Castle through four days, starting 12 May.

According to the organisers of the performance, 500 horses and more than a thousand other performers will take part in “A Gallop through History”, the story of events from the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, who was crowned in 1559, to Queen Elizabeth II. “There is a really good bookending there between two of our great female monarchs,” Simon Brooks-Ward, the producer and director of the event, said.

The performance, funded by private and commercial donations, will be staged before an audience of 4,000, including members of the Royal Family. Organisers hope to raise £1.2 million for the NHS and key worker charities in the United Kingdom through the showcase.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Advisory Committee for the performance, Sir Mike Rake, described the display as “a personal tribute to our monarch”. “It is a real coming together of performers, participants and representatives of the nation and the commonwealth,” he noted.
