A migrant rush to Canada in 2023!

Under the parents and grandparent’s program (PGP), an increase of almost 60% is indicated in January 2023, compared to January 2022. PGP program has welcomed 2065 new permanent residence compared to 1300 in January 2022. This program aims to bring 28,500 permanent residences in 2023.

           Immigration levels plans 2023-2025, Canada has targeted to welcome 465,000 permanent residences in 2023. Canada recorded 50,885 new permanent residence in January 2023, almost 44% more than the 35,450 recorded in January last year. Out of the 465,000 immigrants in 2023 target, 106,500 permanent residence will come under the family sponsorship category. This category includes spouse, common law partners and children, as well as parents and grandparents under PGP.

           Parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residence are able to be sponsored to Canada. If approved under the program, they will be granted Canadian permanent residence, and in time be able to apply for Canadian citizenship.

                  However, certain criteria have to be met to be eligible for the program, such as 18 years of age or older, minimum necessary income levels and additional undertakings is sponsor residence in Quebec.

       Applicants who express interest to sponsor through the PGP between October and November 2020, have been given ITA’s. October 2022 was the last PGP lottery, and at the time there was still approximately 155,000 potential sponsors remaining in the pool.

                   Super Visa, an alternative to the PGP, allowing parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens to enter as visitors for up to 5 years consecutively from their initial visits without having to renew their status.

        Individuals already possessing a super visa can apply for an extension, that will allow them to remain in Canada up to 7 years as a visitor. They can enter Canada multiple times up to 10 years, and is available all year around.

      Parents and grandparents that require a temporary resident visa (TRV) and live in the country, and make use of super visa as an option for entry to Canada.

       With super visa, they can shuttle between Canada and their country of residence without continuously replying for the TRV.
