A new analysis cautions that Canada is catching the American political extremism bug

Canada _ (Commonwealth Union) _ According to a U.S.-based research organization that specializes in assessing geopolitical risk, Canadian politics are beginning to exhibit the same divisiveness and political contagion that have plagued American politics. The yearly “Top Risk” report for the new year, which Eurasia Group issued on Tuesday, contains the warning.

The firm created three independent sub-reports on nations affected by global political turbulence: Canada, Japan, and Brazil, despite the fact that Canada does not rank among the “Top 10” in terms of geopolitical or instability threats.

According to the president of the New York-based group, Ian Bremmer, Russia’s emergence as the most dangerous rogue state in the world poses the greatest geopolitical threat to the planet.

Although the Kremlin has been careful to keep its war in Ukraine to a minimum, Bremmer and the group’s chairman Cliff Kupchan, who co-authored the analysis, said Moscow’s strategy of dividing the West is failing and that it may abandon caution and begin making more direct threats to use nuclear weapons.

According to their study, the political turmoil in the United States, which Bremmer referred to as the “Divided States of America,” poses the greatest risk to Canada.

According to him, the toxic political climate in Washington and the rest of the United States is leaking over the border and is only going to become worse over the course of the next 12 months.

He noted that Canada continues to be “an economically stable, well-functioning democratic democracy,” which is wonderful news. Bremmer, however, predicted a scenario in which Canadian federalism would suffer as provinces like Alberta and Ontario forged tighter links with similar-minded American states. Bremmer also cautioned Canada against being complacent in the face of attacks against politicians.

The organization listed President Xi Jinping’s consolidation of power in Beijing as its second-most concerning source of global danger.

The potential for artificial intelligence (AI) to mislead people and upend society is Eurasia Group’s third top issue of worry. According to the organization, this tendency will reach a breaking point in 2023.
