A star-studded field to begin the games!

KENYA (COMMONWEALTH UNION) – There has been a calling for all athletes as Kisumu City is getting ready to host the first ever Athletics Kenya track and field over the weekend. 

Joseph Ochieng who is the AK Nyanza North regional chairman stated yesterday that there is about 1000 athletes that are expected to take part in this massive two-day event. This event will start on Friday at the Moi stadium and Kisumu National Polytechnic.

The reason for there two be two locations is that the track events will be held at Moi stadium whilst the field events will be held at the Kisumu National Polytechnic.

Ochieng confirmed this as they want to finish all the vents in the one weekend so that the Athletes will not be wasting their time and the government will not be wasting resources and funds.

At the official press conference Ochieng stated that “We expect a star-studded field because most of the athletes are keen to represent the country at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary in August. The event will serve as a build-up ahead of the national trials,”

The World Championships are supposed to be held in August from the 19th to the 27th. 

A few weeks ago, AK Two weeks ago AK went ahead and organised a few opening events such as sprints, middle distance and even a filed event build up. All these were done in the Mumias Sports Complex in Kakamega county. This opening event was what attracted all the athletes.  

One of the judges on the panel assured all parties involved in the games that the conditions are in top condition for all the athletes and their teams of officials.

The athletes were happy to participate as this would be a qualifier for the world championship that would help for them to get into an Olympic team.
