Mumbai (Commonwealth Union)_ Rashmika Mandanna, who portrays the character of Geetanjali in the movie “Animal” alongside Ranbir Kapoor, addressed the ongoing criticism of the film’s portrayal of morally questionable characters, problematic masculinity, and negative depictions of women. As the film marked a week in theaters, Rashmika shared her thoughts on the character and the film’s reception. Her role, Geetanjali, is depicted as Ranbir Kapoor’s love interest and later his wife in the movie.

In her extensive note, Rashmika described Geetanjali as the force holding her family together, a character characterized by purity, authenticity, strength, and rawness. She acknowledged questioning some of Geetanjali’s actions during her portrayal but highlighted that the narrative was a portrayal of their story—Ranvijay’s and Gitanjali’s—reflecting their love, passion, families, and lives. She stated, “Gitanjali. If I were to describe her in a sentence, she would be the only force at home holding her family together. She is pure, real, unfiltered, strong, and raw. At times, as an actor, I would question some of Gitanjali’s actions. And I remember my director telling me, this was their story—Ranvijay’s and Gitanjali’s. It was their love and passion, their families, and their lives – this is who they are.”

Amidst a world marked by violence and pain, Rashmika emphasized that Geetanjali brings peace, trust, and calm. She detailed the character as a resilient force, a rock weathering storms, and a woman willing to do anything for her family. Rashmika drew parallels between Geetanjali and real-life women standing strong and protecting their families in the face of adversity. She added, “In a world full of violence, hurt, and unbearable pain, Gitanjali would bring peace, trust, and calm. She would pray to her Gods to keep her husband and her kids safe. She was the rock that weathered all the storms. She would do anything in her power for the sake of her family. Gitanjali is absolutely beautiful in my eyes, and in some ways she is like most women who are standing strong and protecting their families day in and day out.”
Expressing gratitude for the love and support received, Rashmika concluded her note by celebrating one week since the film’s release and thanked the audience for their continued encouragement, motivating her to work harder with each film. She penned, “Happy one week to us #Animal team. Guys. Thank you all for all the love. It’s what keeps me going and makes me work harder with every film. Big hugs to you all too.”

Her performance in the film garnered praise, with Alia Bhatt commending her for her beauty and honesty and Allu Arjun stating that it was her best performance to date. Rashmika expressed her gratitude to Alia Bhatt and reciprocated the love. Rashmika Mandanna debuted in Bollywood with “Goodbye” alongside Big B last year and also starred in the espionage drama “Mission Majnu” alongside Sidharth Malhotra this year. Her upcoming project includes “Pushpa 2: The Rule,” opposite Allu Arjun.
