India (Commonwealth)_In a vibrant event held on September 18, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj, beamed with pride as she shared India’s crystal-clear vision: “AI for all.” With infectious enthusiasm, she highlighted India’s incredible digital transformation and its human-centric approach to governing AI, all in the pursuit of accelerating progress on sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Ambassador Kamboj underscored India’s pivotal role in the AI revolution, emphasizing its status as the world’s fastest-growing economy. “AI is scarily powerful!” she exclaimed, expressing a deep sense of awe for the potential that AI holds. With the world’s largest pool of skilled AI professionals, India stands poised to lead the way.

India’s digital revolution, marked by an unprecedented surge, owes much to its rapid embrace of Artificial Intelligence. This incredible transformation has been fueled by a blend of government initiatives, private sector innovation, and a tech-savvy population that’s eager to dive into the digital world.

The Ambassador exuded confidence in India’s readiness to take the reins in AI. “By 2035, AI has the potential to contribute an astounding one trillion dollars to India’s economy,” she revealed, her eyes sparkling with excitement at the boundless possibilities.

Key initiatives like the National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence, the National Artificial Intelligence Portal (‘INDIAai’), and the transformative ‘Digital India’ program have played pivotal roles in this technological revolution. Additionally, India is meticulously crafting a National Data Governance Policy, striking the perfect balance between fostering innovation and safeguarding user privacy and security.

One of the standout examples of India’s innovation is the Digital India BHASHINI. This remarkable AI-led language translation platform aims to make the internet and digital services accessible in Indian languages, bridging the digital divide and ensuring inclusivity for all.

Ambassador Kamboj couldn’t hide her pride as she shared the unveiling of INDRAJAAL, the world’s first wide-area AI-powered anti-drone system by an Indian company. This innovation boldly demonstrates India’s commitment to utilizing AI to tackle real-world challenges head-on.

During the recent G20 Summit, India took a significant step forward by proposing a “Framework for Responsible Human-Centric AI Governance.” This forward-thinking initiative seeks to ensure that AI benefits the global community while safeguarding against any potential misuse.

AI’s influence is permeating various sectors of the Indian economy, from defense to health and education. As the Chair of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), India is tirelessly working towards integrating AI into governance. Ambassador Kamboj shared an exciting piece of news: India will be hosting the GPAI Summit in the heart of New Delhi in December 2023, a testament to India’s dedication to the global AI community.

In closing, Ambassador Kamboj radiated optimism for the future of AI in India, emphasizing the nation’s unwavering commitment to inclusive, responsible, and transformative AI development. With a warm smile, she invited everyone to join India on this thrilling journey into a future powered by Artificial Intelligence, where the possibilities are as boundless as our collective imagination.
