Air India announces new check-in closure times

Starting September 10, Air India will implement a new check-in counter closure policy for international passengers departing from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Under this updated policy, check-in counters will close 75 minutes before the scheduled departure time, an adjustment from the previous closure time of 60 minutes. This change is intended to enhance the efficiency of the check-in process and ensure thorough security clearance, especially during peak travel periods.

In an official announcement made on the social media platform X, Air India explained that the decision to extend the check-in closure time was made to “allow ample time for check-in procedures and security clearance even during busy periods.” The airline emphasized that this adjustment is designed to provide a more seamless and comfortable travel experience for passengers. By implementing this new policy, Air India aims to reduce the likelihood of delays and streamline the overall boarding process.

Air India has advised travelers to arrive at the airport well in advance of the new check-in closure time to avoid any last-minute complications. This recommendation is particularly important for passengers flying on high-traffic routes, such as the India-Dubai corridor, which is among the busiest international air routes. The significant Indian diaspora in the UAE, which constitutes over one-third of the UAE’s population, contributes to the high volume of travel between these destinations. Furthermore, Dubai remains a popular destination for Indian tourists. Data from Dubai Economy and Tourism reveals that India was the leading source of international visitors to Dubai in the first ten months of 2023, with nearly 1.99 million Indian tourists recorded.

Passengers traveling from Delhi to Dubai or other UAE destinations should take note of the updated check-in closure time and plan their travel accordingly. Adhering to this new policy will help ensure timely arrival at the airport, reducing the risk of missing their flights. The extension of the check-in window is particularly crucial given the increased time required for processing, which includes check-in procedures and security screenings.

Air India’s decision to revise the check-in counter closure time underscores the airline’s commitment to enhancing passenger service and operational efficiency. The adjustment is part of the airline’s broader efforts to improve travel experiences and accommodate the needs of its passengers during busy travel seasons. Travelers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with this updated policy and adjust their travel plans to align with the new check-in procedures. By doing so, passengers can ensure a smoother and more efficient journey, avoiding any potential delays or disruptions that may arise from the revised check-in timelines. In summary, Air India’s new check-in closure policy represents a proactive step towards optimizing airport operations and enhancing passenger convenience. The airline’s focus on providing ample time for check-in and security processes reflects its dedication to delivering a high standard of service and ensuring a more comfortable travel experience for its customers
