Hotels (Commonwealth Union) _ Alfa Travel, the domestic coach tour operator, has broadened its UK hotel portfolio with the recent acquisition of two properties. The Royal Hotel in Weymouth and the Waverley Castle Hotel in Melrose, Scotland.

These additions join the 24 UK-based hotels managed by the Alfa Leisureplex Group (ALG). The move follows Alfa Travel’s acquisition of the Norfolk Royale Hotel in Bournemouth in February 2023, showcasing its commitment to expanding its destinations across the UK.

Both newly acquired hotels cater specifically to solo travelers, providing a combined total of 38 single rooms with no additional single room supplement charges. This accommodation arrangement aims to meet the unique preferences and needs of solo travelers, offering a comfortable and inclusive experience without extra costs for those choosing to travel alone. As part of its growth strategy, Alfa Travel, an employee-owned company and the parent of Alfa Travel and Leisureplex Hotels, has been investing in refurbishing its existing hotel estate and expanding its Mercedes touring fleet.

Emma Russell, Managing Director of ALG, stated, “We are committed to providing our customers with outstanding quality value for money coach holidays. Our customers have been requesting that we offer a Leisureplex hotel in Weymouth for a number of years, so it is great that we can finally fulfill this wish with the purchase of one of the finest hotels in Weymouth.”

In addition to hotel acquisitions, ALG has been actively investing in ambitious plans, including trade sales development. The group has also ventured into Scotland, rebranding Scottish coach operator David Urquhart Travel as Alfa Travel Scotland in 2020. The recent acquisitions align with ALG’s strategy to enrich its offerings and expand its reach to a broader audience within the travel industry. This move demonstrates a commitment to growth and adaptability, positioning ALG to cater to evolving trends and preferences in the dynamic landscape of travel and hospitality.
