Cat owners in Singapore can now take their beloved pets on a luxury sunset cruise.
Cats can enjoy more of the finer things in life as a new luxury cruise ship in Singapore sets sail with them on board.
Guests can join the exclusive pet-friendly sails and explore the best Singapore attractions by taking the two-and-a-half hour trip on the 47-metre tall Royal Albatross Singapore with their pets. After sailing alongside the resort island of Sentosa offering views of Singapore’s skyline, the experience ends with a short fireworks display.
Capacity is for up to 130 humans and 15 feline companions to board the Royal Albatross tall ship on each sailing.
Pets can relax on board, in custom-built “cat-banas” as their owners are now able to enjoy a four or seven-course meal beside them on deck while their cats lounge around, enjoy the sights and socialise. There are also toys and playpens scattered around inside.
Sylvia Lee, partnership sales manager at Tall Ship Adventures says the cats get their own little spacious cabanas – cat-banas, they call it, like a cabana, where they are able to lounge in there and just enjoy the sunset and the sea breeze.
Marissa Ng, a 28-year-old human resources professional who took her five-year-old ragdoll cats Coco and Bobo on the cruise said she thought they were doing very well, enjoying the view and the perceived freedom that they get.
Is the cruise safe for cats?
The company behind the cruises, namely Tall Ship Adventures, says it consulted with experts and animal welfare organisations such as the Cat Welfare Society to ensure a safe experience on board.
When they get on the ship, pets need to be in a carrier. Precautions include making sure cats are securely harnessed and leashed at all times while onboard. They should be spayed or neutered and vaccinated to take part in the luxury experience.
It is compulsory that harnesses and leads are supposed to be on all the time says Lee. They are also required to be vaccinated and sterilised, and at least four months old as well as being transported in carriers while boarding.
The website for the Royal Albatross states the cruise is not for every cat and the company advises against bringing felines that are not used to being outside the home.
The decision to start a sunset cruise for cats came after the immense popularity of their dog cruises, which have hosted over 2,000 canines since 2021.
The cat cruises and dog cruises have different sailing days.

There are a few differences in the experience with dogs and cats sailing on separate days. While dogs are served a three-course meal onboard at the table, cat owners must take their pets’ meals on board as cats are less likely to eat in an unfamiliar environment. To avoid the animals turning down food when they are outside of their comfort zone, which is a common behaviour among cats they get to take their food home with them.
The cat cruises are just the latest offering from Tall Ship Adventures but the company has been welcoming dogs since 2021. So far, around 2,000 have set sail with their owners, but feline ticket sales are quickly catching up to their canine counterparts. Over 200 human passengers have already booked at a cost of S$225 (€153) each. Tickets cost 225 Singapore dollars ($166), including one cat.
