(Commonwealth) _ Nissan is actively preparing to introduce a cost-effective A-segment electric vehicle (EV) for the global market, and this project, as previously disclosed, is making significant progress with India being a pivotal component of the strategy. Nissan Motor Corporation’s CEO, Makoto Uchida, has confirmed that the company is diligently working on delivering a “global affordable EV,” and India features prominently in the brand’s forward-looking vision. Having already achieved remarkable sales of over 1 million electric vehicles across the world, Nissan has showcased its commitment to the EV revolution by unveiling a total of five distinct EV concepts at the recent Japan Mobility Show, setting a new record for the company in terms of concept premieres. Additionally, earlier this year, Nissan, in collaboration with its alliance partner Renault, announced plans to make a substantial investment of $660 million (equivalent to approximately Rs 4,913 crore) in India. This investment is earmarked for the development of C-segment EVs and an A-segment EV.

In a revealing interview with Autocar Professional, Francois Bailly, the Senior Vice President and Chief Planning Officer for the AMIEO region, shed light on Nissan’s unwavering commitment to fully immerse itself in the Indian electric vehicle (EV) segment. This resolute stance includes a strategic shift towards adopting a skateboard-style all-electric platform, a notable departure from the traditional internal combustion engine (ICE)-based or multi-powertrain vehicle platforms. This forward-looking strategy, reminiscent of Tata Motors’ successful approach in the Indian market, demonstrates Nissan’s dedication to aligning with the changing automotive landscape in India and fostering a sustainable and electrified future for mobility in the region.

Nissan is strategically positioning itself in the burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) market, with a multifaceted approach aimed at meeting the evolving needs of consumers, particularly in India. As part of its initial foray, Nissan is contemplating the launch of an imported Ariya EV by the year 2024. This move underscores the brand’s commitment to capitalizing on the growing interest in electric mobility solutions. Furthermore, there’s a strong indication that the CMF-B platform, meticulously designed for the C-segment SUVs tailor-made for the Indian market, will serve as the platform for forthcoming EV offerings. This versatile platform is poised to underpin Nissan’s vision for the future of electric vehicles in India.

Francois Bailly, the Senior Vice President and Chief Planning Officer for the AMIEO region, succinctly encapsulated Nissan’s perspective on the Indian EV market. He emphasized that the demand for EVs in India is witnessing rapid growth, and the company anticipates a robust transition toward electric mobility. Bailly affirmed Nissan’s commitment to being an integral part of this transition, offering the right alternatives to the market. This underscores Nissan’s proactive stance in embracing the changing automotive landscape and aligning itself with India’s green and sustainable future.

Complementing these significant initiatives, Nissan is dedicatedly forging ahead with its plans to introduce a Micra EV concept that caters specifically to global markets. This bold undertaking serves as a central pillar in Nissan’s overarching strategy to fortify its electric vehicle portfolio and proactively engage in the worldwide transformation towards sustainable and eco-friendly mobility solutions. The introduction of the Micra EV concept not only widens Nissan’s product range but also sends a clear signal of the company’s commitment to taking a leading position in the global electric vehicle revolution. As Nissan prepares to roll out this innovative concept, it stands ready to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of electric mobility on a global scale.
