Sangita Reddy, Joint Managing Director of Apollo Hospitals Group, spoke about the innovative AI tool that can predict cardiovascular diseases. She said, “Apollo’s AI-powered Cardiovascular Disease Risk Score is specifically for use in the Indian population, so that physicians can better predict the risk of cardiac disease in their patients. The tool is built on algorithms based on ten years of anonymised data relating to around 400,000 individuals across the country collected by the team at Apollo Hospitals”.

The program generates a risk score that considers all relevant aspects, including lifestyle habits such as nutrition, tobacco use, smoking preferences, alcohol use, and physical activity, along with psychological stress and anxiety as measured by rate of respiration and hypertension. Additionally, it provides insight into risk factors that may be adjusted to enhance the score, allowing clinicians to provide more holistic counsel to their patients, including specific recommendations for lifestyle adjustment.

According to Dr. Prathap C Reddy, Chairman of Apollo Hospitals Group, despite the fact that some predictive technologies exist to help physicians assess the likelihood of their patients getting heart disease, the majority of these are based on Western data sets and do not account for regional risk variations. He spoke about the benefits of this home-made AI tool. He said, “This impacts their accuracy when applied in an Indian context. The Apollo AI-powered Cardiovascular Disease Risk tool will change that and put the knowledge and the means to predict and prevent heart disease in the physician’s hands. Available till now only to Apollo’s physicians, it is a proud moment for us to dedicate this AI tool to all physicians in the country”.
