Bangladesh celebrates 50th anniversary of Independence and National Day

-

Dhaka, Bangladesh (CU)_ Today is Bangladesh’s 50th anniversary of Independence and National Day. The country is also celebrating birth centenary of Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the same day. The grand commemoration of Bangabandhu’s birth centenary and the golden jubilee of Bangladesh’s independence, which included the in-person participation of five heads of states and governments and the virtual presence of other world leaders, began on March 17 with the presence of Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih at the National Parade Square.

The ten-day glorious celebration comes to a conclusion today with the commemoration of independence and National Day, which will be attended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in person. Since March 17, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Nepalese President Bidya Devi Bhandari, and Bhutanese Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering have all attended the grand celebration. In honor of the day, the government has planned extensive programs, while also ensuring that the COVID health recommendations are followed.

On the special day, President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina addressed the civilians individually and delivered their messages. They expressed their greetings wholeheartedly and extended warm regards to their domestic and abroad population. The National Memorial at Savar was the focal point of the day’s commemorations, with President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laying wreaths early in the morning to pay tribute to the martyrs.

In the early morning of the day, people from all classes laid wreaths at the national memorial. The day’s events started with a 50-gun salute early in the morning to honor the nation’s heroic struggle, which saw prolonged domination under foreign power before gaining their cherished Independence in 1971. With the rising of the sun, the national flag was hoisted above all government, semi-government, independent, and private buildings, and all major city intersections were festooned with national and multi-colored mini flags and garlands.

Colorful lights were used to illuminate important buildings and establishments, as well as city streets and islands. Special prayers were offered in all places of worship like mosques, temples, and churches throughout the nation, asking for divine blessings for the departed souls of the Father of the Nation, four national leaders, War of Liberation martyrs, and all other patriotic sons of the country. Similar services were also held at the missions around the world to commemorate the day.
