ADELAIDE, Australia (CWBN)_  While most news items about animal encounters in Australia are fairly terrifying, the following story seems to prove that there is always and exception to the rule. A Koala was found atop the Christmas tree inside a home in Coromandel Valley near Adelaide, southern Australia.

The incident was so unusual that when Amanda McCormick called local koala rescue organization 1300Koalaz to report it, the hotline operator was convinced that it was a prank call. “This evening our hotline operator took a call.  At first she thought she was the victim of a prank call. But no, a koala desperate to get in the Christmas spirit had wandered into Amanda McCormick’s house and decided it wanted to be the fairy on the Christmas tree,” the organization later explained in a Facebook post.

“Amanda was not so sure and rang 1300KOALAZ for help. Thanks Amanda for the great pictures and making sure this little koala got its wish, even if it was just for a short while,” the post continued. It was even accompanied by a creatively adjusted line from a popular Christmas carol: “Tis the season to be jolly…Koalalalala Lalalala”.

1300Koalaz co-founder Dee Hearne-Hellon told an international news agency that while it was not uncommon for Koalas to wander into houses, residents should not try to move them on their own. She said that the “best thing to do is leave them alone as they can get aggressive and call 1300koalaz to remove them. As cute as they look they have very long claws and very sharp teeth”.
