VANCOUVER (CU)_Over the past few days Canada’s westernmost province has been encountering one of the costliest natural disasters in the country’s history, as devastating floods and mudslides destroyed houses, roads, bridges and other key infrastructure across the area. With a record level of rainfall leaving thousands of people stranded on highways and in towns, the Premier of British Columbia John Horgan declared a state of emergency, granting local authorities extraordinary powers to deal with what has been described as one the costliest natural disasters in Canada’s history.
