Bangladesh elected to the United Nations Commission on Social Development

Dhaka, Bangladesh (CU)_ Bangladesh was unanimously chosen to serve a four-year term from 2023 to 2027 on the Commission for Social Development (CSocD), which is a subsidiary group of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The election took place during the ECOSOC Management meeting. In addition to Bangladesh, India and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have also been chosen to serve in this organization from the Asia Pacific Group.

Ambassador Rabab Fatima, the Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the UN after the election, expressed delight over the new recognition. She said, “Bangladesh has achieved remarkable success in poverty reduction and socio economic development under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. This election demonstrates the recognition of Bangladesh’s extraordinary success story by the international community”.

According to her, Bangladesh has achieved great progress in poverty reduction and socioeconomic development under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visionary governance and places a premium on the Commission’s work. The Commission for Social Development (CSocD) is the primary United Nations body that advises ECOSOC on broad social policy and monitors critical social development issues. The Commission currently has a membership of 46 members.

Ambassador Fatima expressed confidence saying, “As a member of the Commission, we would make every effort to foster international cooperation for socio-economic development by sharing our good practices”. She added, “This election demonstrates the recognition of Bangladesh’s extraordinary success story by the international community”.
