Bangladeshi ship attacked at Ukrainian port

Dhaka, Bangladesh (CU)_ The Bangladeshi ship named MV Banglar Samriddhi that reached Ukraine’s port of Olvia on February 22 got trapped as a result of Russia’s invasion of the pro-Western country. A sailor aboard the Bangladeshi ship MV Banglar Samriddhi was murdered after the ship came under missile assault in the Ukrainian port.

Sultana Laila Hossain, Bangladesh’s ambassador to Poland, who is also incharge of Ukraine, acknowledged the death of a sailor without revealing the identity of the deceased. She told the media, “The Bangladesh shipping authorities would be the appropriate authority to announce the name of the deceased”.

According to a crew member named Omar Faruk Tuhin, who spoke to the media through WhatsApp from the attacked ship at Ukraine’s port, the name of the dead sailor was Hadisur Rahman, who is the ship’s third engineer.

According to him, the MV Banglar Samriddhi, which is operated by Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, was attacked on Wednesday night at around 9:25 pm Bangladesh time. He stated that the crew members were able to extinguish the fire soon after the attack. However, even after repeated attempts, no officials from Bangladesh Shipping Corporation could be contacted for further information.

According to a BSC authority, the MV Banglar Samriddhi reached Ukraine’s port of Olvia on February 22 after sailing from Eregli in Turkey on February 21. On February 27, BSC general manager Mujibur Rahman stated that the ship was trapped at the port of Olvia with 29 crew members after port officials prohibited movement as a result of the Russian incursion and refused to provide permission.
