Europe UK (Commonwealth Union) – Students from the Queen’s University Belfast collaborated with local residents as well as the Belfast City Council out on the streets of Belfast as part of the 2023 Big Spring Clean.

The Big Screen Clean-up is a Community Effort to Keep Public Spaces Beautiful which commenced at the start of this month and is set to continue till the  end of April.

Litter and waste are an unfortunate reality in many public spaces, from parks and beaches to streets and sidewalks. Not only is this unsightly and unpleasant, but it can also have negative effects on the environment and public health. That’s where the Big Screen Clean up comes in – a community effort to keep public spaces beautiful and promote a cleaner, healthier community.

The event is a simple idea with a big impact. Individuals, organizations, and local authorities come together to clean up litter and waste from public spaces, creating a cleaner, safer, and more inviting environment for everyone. From picking up plastic bottles and food wrappers to clearing away larger items like furniture and appliances, the Big Screen Clean up can make a significant difference in the appearance and functionality of public spaces.

The Big Screen Clean up is also an opportunity to educate the public about the importance of waste reduction and responsible waste management. In Belfast, the event has become an annual event that draws hundreds of volunteers from all walks of life. From school groups and community organizations to businesses and local authorities, everyone is welcome to participate in this city-wide effort to keep Belfast beautiful. By working together, the Big Screen Clean up has helped to create a stronger, more connected community that takes pride in its public spaces. Similar events held in Schools and beaches across the world have played a significant role in raising awareness on environmental pollution and tackling the issue as well.
