Mumbai (Commonwealth Union)_ In a touching display of resilience and strength, renowned Bollywood actors Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover joyously welcomed their first child, a baby girl named Devi Basu Singh Grover, on November 12, 2022. However, the bliss of parenthood soon faced a formidable challenge as they discovered that Devi was born with a ventricular septal defect (VSD), characterized by two holes in her heart. This revelation marked the beginning of a courageous journey for the newborn and the parents.
In a recent Instagram Live chat with actor Neha Dhupia, Bipasha Basu candidly shared the emotional and difficult after-birth story of her daughter Devi. Just three days after giving birth, they were confronted with the news of Devi’s heart condition. Bipasha expressed the unique struggles they faced as parents, acknowledging that their experience was far from the typical joys of new parenthood. She felt compelled to share their ordeal to reach out to other mothers who might have faced similar challenges and offer them support.
Sharing her experience as a new mother, Bipasha Basu said, “Our journey has been very different from any normal mother-father, it has been a lot tougher than the smile that I have on my face right now. I would not wish this to happen to any mother. For a new mother, when you get to know that… I got to know on the third day of me having a baby that our baby was born with two holes in her heart. I thought I’d not share this, but I’m sharing this because I feel that there are a lot of mothers who helped me in this journey, and it was very difficult to find those mothers… “
The couple found themselves grappling with the unfamiliarity of the medical condition, VSD, and were overwhelmed by the gravity of their situation. The first five months proved to be an exceptionally trying period for them. Despite their initial numbness, they were also filled with love and a desire to celebrate their daughter’s arrival. However, they had to confront the possibility that Devi might require surgery to correct the condition, with the optimal age for the procedure being three months.
Bipasha revealed the emotional turmoil they experienced, torn between hope for natural healing and the difficult decision to potentially subject their child to open heart surgery. Their belief in the power of positive thinking urged them to manifest healing through their thoughts, but the months passed without the desired outcome. Devi’s large hole in the heart made it uncertain whether the healing process would occur naturally. Bipasha was emotional while sharing the painful story. She continued with tears, saying, “You feel so sad, so burdened, and so conflicted, because how can you put a child through open heart surgery? Something natural will happen, and people like us who are believers, we try to manifest it with our thoughts that it will start healing itself.”
As the three-month mark approached, Bipasha had already delved into extensive research, consulted surgeons, and visited hospitals to prepare for the possibility of surgery. While she felt assured that Devi would be alright, Karan was understandably apprehensive. The couple grappled with the decision to proceed with the operation at the right time and in the right place. Ultimately, Devi underwent the life-changing surgery at three months old, enduring a nerve-wracking six-hour procedure. During this time, Bipasha’s life seemed to come to a standstill as she anxiously awaited the outcome of the operation. Thankfully, the surgery was successful, and Bipasha expressed immense relief and gratitude that Devi emerged from the experience in good health.
