Since his presidential inauguration earlier this year, US President Joe Biden has shown particular interest in developing relations with Africa, in stark contrast to his predecessor Donald Trump, who became the first American leader in decades to not have visited the region while in office.

Meanwhile, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari thanked the Biden administration for its interest in improving diplomatic ties with the continent, as he vowed to strengthen collaborations with the US on peace and security in Africa.

“Nigeria and our security forces remain resolutely committed to continue them and addressing the root causes,” President Buhari said. “The support for important and strategic partners like the United States cannot be overstated.”
