Cabinet gives green light for Asiri Port City Hospital

Sri Lanka (Commonwealth Union)_ Asiri Port City Hospital (Pvt) Company has proposed a substantial investment of USD 100 million to establish a hospital in Colombo Port City. The project, aligned with strategic priorities outlined in the Colombo Port City (Guidelines on the Grant of Exemptions or Incentives to Businesses of Strategic Importance) Regulations, No. 2 of 2023, has garnered government support. The President, in his role as the Minister of Investment Promotion, presented a proposal to grant exemptions or incentives to the Asiri Hospital project under the specified provisions.

The project is set to be declared a primary business of strategic importance through a gazette order, with subsequent tabling in Parliament, which secured approval from the Cabinet of Ministers. Accordingly, Sri Lanka’s largest private healthcare provider, Asiri Hospital Holdings PLC, declared its intention to build a new modern medical facility within Colombo Port City. The facility will be developed and operated by Asiri’s fully owned subsidiary, Asiri Port City Hospital (Pvt) Ltd, under an Agreement to Lease with the Colombo Port City Economic Commission.

Operated on a 99-year leasehold basis, the hospital is one of four key strategic and large-scale social infrastructure development projects found within Port City Colombo. Led by Founder and Chairman Mr. Ashok Pathirage, Asiri Port City Hospital (Pvt) Ltd, a pioneering entity of the Softlogic Group of Companies, will collaborate with a globally renowned corporation for strategic and operational consulting services. Found in 1986, Asiri Hospital Holdings manages 11 medical facilities throughout Sri Lanka, boasting over 800 beds total. The objective of the new Colombo Port City-based hospital is to provide advanced healthcare solutions and customized patient care services, drawing on Asiri Hospitals’ expertise in integrated clinical practice, education, and research.

Comprising a medical team of both local and international experts and specialists, along with internationally trained nursing and medical care staff, the hospital aims to provide care for serious or complex diseases. Positioned as a global authority in the field, the venture signifies a major milestone in Sri Lanka’s pursuit of developing and attracting medical tourism. Further, Asiri Port City Hospital (Pvt) Ltd’s blend of expertise and international collaboration is poised to elevate the country’s healthcare sector, aiming to transform Sri Lanka into Asia’s major medical tourism destination, thereby contributing to the nation’s economic and social development.
