LONDON (CU)_Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, is “slightly improving” after being transferred to St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, the Duchess of Cornwall has said.

The Duke, 99, is currently being treated for an infection, after he was admitted to the private King Edward VII Hospital on February 18. Later, he was moved to Barts for tests and observation on Monday (March 1).

During her visit to the community vaccination centre at St Paul’s Church on Wednesday, Camilla provided an update when a volunteer at the centre inquired about the Duke. “We’ll keep our fingers crossed,” she added.

The volunteer, Anne Sheehan, confirmed that she asked the duchess regarding Prince Philip’s condition.

“We heard today that he’s slightly improving. So, that’s very good news,” Camilla said. “We’ll keep our fingers crossed.”

The exact reason for the Duke’s initial hospitalization has not been disclosed, although his illness is believed to be not related to the Coronavirus. The palace said doctors continue to treat him “for an infection”, while he is also being kept under observation for a pre-existing heart condition.

St Bartholomew’s Hospital, in the City of London, is home to Europe’s largest specialised cardiovascular unit.

Meanwhile, the Prince of Wales visited his father at King Edward VII’s Hospital last week, while the Queen and other members of the royal family have continued to carry out their official duties.

Previously, Prince Philip was rushed to a hospital by helicopter in 2011 after suffering chest pains, just a couple of days before Christmas. He was then treated for a blocked coronary artery and had a stent fitted at Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire.
