Canada (Commonwealth Union)_ Canada has announced a number of benefits for international students who are pursuing their studies in the country. The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has implemented a number of modifications, including increasing the number of students and removing limitations on working hours. Canada is one of the world’s most popular destinations for foreign students for a variety of reasons, including cost, employment, and permanent residence opportunities. Last year, Canada welcomed approximately 620,000 overseas students and granted nearly 450,000 new study visas.

The newly announced benefits for overseas students aim to provide students with greater learning opportunities, increase the student direct stream to allow for accelerated study, and encourage international students to apply for permanent residency to alleviate the labor deficit. In addition, the Immigration Authority will provide monthly statistics on application backlogs in order to monitor student visa applications, and students will be permitted to work more than 20 hours a week off campus.

Here are five significant advantages that international students in Canada might enjoy.

  • As per the report, Canada has identified that the number of international students holding study permits would climb to around 753,000 from 2022-2023, resulting in additional options for students looking to study in the country.
  • Canada also intends to investigate the development of the Student Direct Stream (SDS), which expedites study permits for students from across the world.
  • In order to address the country’s labor shortfall, Canada also intends to facilitate overseas students’ status to permanent residency.
  • Canada’s immigration authorities have pledged to post monthly statistics on application backlogs to aid overseas students in tracking their applications.
  • Canada has also permitted overseas students to work off-campus for more than 20 hours a week as a temporary solution available to foreign residents who have previously submitted an application for a study visa.
