Canada wildfires claim yet another victim…

-

Canada recorded the death of a second firefighter near Fort Liard in the north west territory, as the country encounters record breaking season of wildfires. The unnamed individual died from injuries sustained while fighting an uncontrollable                       blaze. The incident occurred days after Devyn gale, a 19 – year – old, was pronounced dead while working in Neighboring British Colombia.

About 580 wildfires remain uncontrollable from nearly 900 wildfires presently blazing across Canada. Canadian Interagency Forest fire center reports that the fires have destroyed in excess of 10m hectares (24.7m acres) of land and recording figures higher than ever before, estimating more than three times the average for the past 10 years.

Justin Trudeau prime minister informed that he was “incredibly saddened” by the information that another brave soul had lost their life, and sent his condolences to their grieving families.

Premier of the northwest territories Carline Cochrane informed that the loss is a tragic for the entire territory, she extended her heartfelt condolences to their family, colleagues and friends. She further stated that the selflessness and bravery of our firefighters is an incredible asset to us all.

Ms Gale’s demise was the first recorded death on the surface in Canada’s current wildfire season.  Subsequently, Mr. Trudeau said that Canadians should always remember the risks that these heroes undertake every time they run towards danger. He publicly thanked all firefighters across the country who are risking their lives to keep the nation safe, and grateful for the service they have undertaken with immense courage.

The dry, hot weather resulting from climate change is more likely to fuel wildfires. Since the biggening of the industrial era, the world has warmed by 1.1C, and will keep rising unless steep cuts to emissions are undertaken by governments around the world.

Canada is projected to be warming at a higher pace than the rest of the world, and have experienced extreme weather conditions in recent years with increased intensity and frequency.
