The Conservatives are calling on the government to release complete details of the proposed U.S. trade offer that Canada rejected.
Party members said that they support the government’s decision to reject the offer, although they were unclear about its content.
On Saturday, 22 August ’26, U.S. President Donald Trump imposed 50% tariffs on a wide range of Canadian goods. The decision includes some that fall within Canada’s existing free trade deal with the U.S. & Mexico.

A former Conservative cabinet minister said that she hopes that Prime Minister Mark Carney may brief opposition members on the proposed trade deal besides the next steps intended.
A member of the advisory committee on Canada-U.S. economic relations, Lisa Raitt, told the CTV News channel on Sunday, 23 August, that having other folks leak & talk to reporters isn’t helpful.
Raitt added that she hopes Carney may set up a briefing in response to the Conservative leader’s request.
She added that it’s openness that may be needed.
They want to know what is included in the agreement that has not yet been finalised. Furthermore, they need to know what programs are moving forward for Canadians who are unfairly impacted by the 50% tariff.
Release U.S. trade offer details: Conservatives
Federal conservatives are calling on the government to release the full details of the trade offer from the U.S. that Canada rejected this week.
In a letter to Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc, Canada-U.S. relations critic Shuvaloy Mujumdar said that whilst his party supports the government’s decision to reject the deal, Parliament’s in the dark on the offer’s content.
Mujumdar added that if there is a draft text of any agreement that both governments have seen, kindly release it. The U.S. administration has seen it. Your government has also seen it. Canadians may deserve it as well.
A spokesman for the Bloc Quebecois wouldn’t say whether they support the calls for the government to detail what the Americans were offering.
