LONDON (CU)_A year from now, the United Kingdom will carry out celebrations through a four-day weekend, which will include a special Trooping of the Colour, a concert at Buckingham Palace, a Service of Thanksgiving and a series of street parties and picnics. Moreover, members of the Royal Family will travel around the United Kingdom, carrying out several engagements, while beacons will be lit throughout the country, as well as the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, UK overseas territories and in the capital cities of the Commonwealth nations.

All of these celebrations will be held in June 2022 to mark Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee, as Her Majesty is set to become the first British monarch ever to mark 70 years on the throne. Accordingly, Buckingham Palace announced plans for the four days of festivities from Thursday, 2 June to Sunday, 5 June. The arrangements are expected to be similar to those carried out back in 2012 marking Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee. In a statement issued on Wednesday (2 June), the Palace said that there will also be a “year-long Platinum Jubilee celebrations throughout the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and around the world” as communities come together to mark the joyous occasion.

Later this month, a design competition will be launched, inviting people to submit ideas for the Jubilee emblem, as the official symbol for the 2022 celebrations will be selected.

According to the Palace, the four-day celebrations will begin with the Queen’s Birthday Parade, known as Trooping of the Colour, as Her Majesty’s official birthday will be celebrated with more 1,400 soldiers, 400 musicians and 200 horses who will take part in the traditional parade. Later, on Friday, a Service of Thanksgiving will be held at St Paul’s Cathedral, for The Queen’s reign. The following day, Her Majesty, as well as the other members of the Royal Family will gather at Epsom Downs Racecourse, for the Derby. On the same day, a live concert will be staged and broadcast by the BBC from Buckingham Palace, which will include performances by “some of the world’s biggest entertainment stars”.

On Sunday, the final day of celebrations, a pageant will take place, featuring over 5,000 people from across the UK and the Commonwealth. The event is expected to bring together arts, music, theatre, carnival and circus. On this day, people are invited to get together with friends and family for food and drinks, in celebration of The Queen’s seven decade reign.
