In collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tea Board and the Export Development Board, the event was meticulously crafted to spotlight the unparalleled quality and rich aroma of Ceylon tea within the Belgian landscape.

With an impressive turnout of over 80 participants, including Belgian tea importers, brokers, international tasters, and industry experts, the event also drew in journalists, media personnel, social media influencers, and bloggers.

Ambassador Grace Asirwatham underscored the 150-year legacy of Ceylon tea, emphasizing the distinct flavors derived from hand-picked tea leaves cultivated in diverse Sri Lankan climates. Sri Lanka’s prominent role as the primary exporter of orthodox black tea to the EU, valued at Euro 79 million under EU GSP Plus, was acknowledged for its positive societal impact.

Emphasizing Sri Lanka’s dedication to sustainability, global best practices, and collaborations with conservation organizations, Ambassador Asirwatham highlighted Ceylon tea’s certifications, including Fair Trade, Ethical Tea Partnership, Rainforest Alliance, and various organic certifications, showcasing its commitment to eco-friendly production practices.
