(Commonwealth Union)_ The Indo-American Veterans Organization (IAVO), which was founded last year, hosted its one-year anniversary celebration on Vetran’s Day at the Stonegate Banquet & Conference in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. According to a media statement from IAVO, the group is committed to recognizing Indian-American Veterans of the United States Military.
Masters of the Ceremony Usha Kamaria, who is also a board member, and co-host Richa Chand organized the program. Following the Indian national anthem, four United States Army soldiers carried the US Army flag and the American flag, following which the national anthem of the United States was performed. A number of sponsors, contributors, and distinguished guests, including the Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker Shalabh “Shalli” Kumar; Guest of Honor, India’s Consul General Somnath Ghosh; Aurora, Illinois Alderwoman Shweta Baid; Bhailal Patel of Parikh Worldwide Media; and other Indian-American veterans were present during the celebration.
Chris Aryan, the founder, chairman and president of IAVO, greeted the attendees and delivered a brief speech about the group. He noted that the organization was not supported by the federal government or Congress. According to him, the 501-c-3 nonprofit organization relies on contributions. Aryan is a veteran of both the Air Force and the Army of the United States Armed Forces. In his remarks, Consul General Ghosh lauded Aryan for establishing IAVO, noting that it will further enhance India-USA ties, given that Indian-Americans have served and will continue to serve in the US Armed Forces. He also pledged his complete support to further enhance IAVO’s objectives and causes.
The entertainment section of the event featured world champions, coaches, and instructors performing ballroom dance. Other performances included Harvest Moon Ball by Peter Minkov & Partner; North Shore Dance Society of Glencoe by Aleksandr Bonev & Partner; as well as performances by Paul Garbarz and Kristi Frank. The event also featured a Hispanic Ethnic Cultural Dance troupe and traditional Indian Kathak dances. A unique memorial plaque was presented to honor the long list of sponsors and supporters. The event successfully concluded with a delicious dinner and Bollywood background mixes.
